ANZAC DAY 2024
COLLIE - ANZAC DAY 2024
ANZAC Day 2024 in Collie went off like a “well-oiled machine” thanks to the planning, co-ordination and member contributions of the RSL Club, Collie Shire, and support from many organisations and RSL Sponsors.
Dawn Service starting at 05:40AM at Soldiers Park was well patronised - so much so that there were minor traffic jams and parking was at a premium. It was great to see young and old out paying their respects in the pre-dawn service.
Dawn Service was followed up the “Gunfire Breakfast” at the RSL Club for the traditional bacon, sausages, baked beans, and eggs on toast. The efforts of Pete, Mirna, Goltzy, Mala and Rover on the BBQ’s and Cynthia, Bev, Jillian, Heather in the kitchen were well appreciated.
At the sound of Colonel Bogey blasting from the RSL “sound Car” the 11:00AM march departed the Coles Carpark and to the cheers of bystanders in the streets marched on to Soldiers Park where the 11:00AM Morning Service was delivered. RSL President Mr. Gary Benton supported by numerous community agencies/persons reminded all that attended the horrors of war and the Sacrifices that our “Collie Boys” endured in support of King and Country and our Australian Democracy. Some highlights from the Service were the singing of the NZ National Anthem by Margie Hunia, the singing of our Australian National Anthem by CSHS Student Leah Robinson, songs by Paul Petriw and Last Post and Rouse by CSHS Student Tom Whitney.
After the Morning Service at Soldiers Park a large group of RSL Members, Friends and Families, Local community members and visitors migrated to the RSL Club for lunch, drinks and two-up.
A day of tribute to the fallen.
Lest We Forget
